Lacquer and Light

Lacquer and Light gathers a generation of painters whose works trace the long, quiet revolution of Vietnamese modernism — from the early experiments of the École des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine to the contemporary studios of the Old Quarter.

Across more than thirty panels, the exhibition charts a sustained inquiry into surface, into memory, into the conversation between Vietnamese sensibility and the international vocabularies of modern painting. Gold leaf laid over crushed eggshell, pigments worked into resin — each surface asks to be seen in person.

Curated in close collaboration with the artists and their estates, the exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue and a series of public conversations held in the gallery's reading room.
